They should be sovereign but I doubt china wants to give them up because of how much is produced there.

It's more an ego thing- If a country recognizes Taiwan, they can't trade with China, which puts a real dent in a nation's economy

Taiwan should be free but we should help so all that stuff which is made in Taiwan is now free! (which is almost virtually everything)
