Ok. WWII, still.
In 1943, the german slogen for the italian front was "Long way to Rome". In the begining of 1944, there were major battles around a mountain, particularly around a monastery. It was finally took by polish troops.
What is the name of this mountain, and what was the nickname of the german paratroopers, who defended it?

That was Monte Cassino -my great-uncle crossing the river just before the battle began. Don't know what the nickname was, though.

Did he survived the war? My grandfather was north of Stalingrad, when the russians launched the counter-offensive...he was one of the few survivors. After the war, the romanians forced him to a labour camp(he was a lawyer and a former hungarian officer....) The answer is right;i think it's your turn, since it was two questions.... Hint for the nickname:The Red Devils had red cap, and they were good warriors....The germans had green uniforms, and were good warriors too....

Green...helmet?
Ah, that was a half-baked sentence I forgot to finish. He died at Monte Cassino, and apparently he's buried nearby in the town in war grave. They sent the British 8th over the river in order to get to the mountain, and they were sprayed with machine-gun fire.
Wow, your grandfather had to put up with a lot! No wonder you know so much about that front. Why did the Romanians capture him?

Almost. Green Devils.
Russian method. That's the reason behind my pacifism.
I was born in Transsylvania, just like my grandfather. Transsylvania was part of Hungary before the first WW, and a significant hungarian minority is still presented there. During the WWII, north-transsylvania was annexed by hungary, and my grandfather enlisted to the army. The army was destroyed, the romanians switched sides in '44, and captured north-transsylvania again. And started to assimilate the minorities with such methods.

Oh, I see. I did hear somewhere that there was a crisis in the 80's when the Romanians started pushing the Magyar minorities around, but I can't remember the details that well. Romanians have always been a little odd. Like the French, and to a lesser extent the Welsh.

Not just in the 80's. This is the saddest thing in middle-europe;The nations of this area are fighting each other for centuries. And this is the reason behind the strong, mostly pointless nationalism in these countries. Whan Transsylvania was the part of the Hungarian Kingdom, we wanted to assimilate the romanians too. Terrible past for both countries(in this light), but we must learn from it. These countries were always only the playthings of the great powers, and their own ignorance.... i hope the EU can bring closer the nations of this area. Anyway, i think it's your turn

Hopefully this will happen to the Balkan states in time, but I think only Croatia is in talks.
Which Roman consul constructed the first Pantheon in Rome?

What city are you from? I am from Cluj-Nappoca. Yeah there are still a large minority of Hungarians in the the northwest, and Romanians are racist to Hungarians. My mom can speack both languages, plus some English with of course a bad accent. My 26 year old cousin just came over the the US last month to work and then go back to Cluj when the tourist season is over. For the question: Zeus! No its like Marc Antony or some guy.

Mark Antony is a good guess, it's the right period. But wrong. Nobody? Begins with 'a'.

Well, it was done under the reign and authorization of Augustus, so I'll let you have the point. The answer I was looking for was 'Agrippa', but close enough. Your go.
