In this thread I will post news from CSA through the latest publications to come from the region.
-----
There are currently three publications in the CSA, of which only the last two of the following three are currently active: Communist Tribune, Vox Populi and Gazetta CSA.
Communist Tribune was the first newspaper to be released, and remains the only official newspaper of the region. The newspaper can only be edited and produced by the Culture Minister, and the absence of such a minister has caused the subsequent decline of the publication. The format is usually a word document edited to look like a traditional newspaper, and all news items are displayed in individual articles.
Vox Populi is the second-longest running paper in the CSA, and has been around since March 18th according to the official history, which describes it as a 'revisionist monthly'. The paper was created by former Culture Minister Led Zeppelin, who remains the centre of evolutionary politics in the region, and features the same format as the Communist Tribune. However, the content is more focused on political theory rather than regional politics, and often contains evaluations of historical events.
Gazetta CSA is the newest publication in the CSA, having published a mere two issues. It differs from both the Communist Tribune and the Vox Populi by being in forum format -that is, a separate topic on the forum. Although supposedly designed to combine regional news with political theory (a cross between the other two publications) it has thus far only featured regional news. The newspaper was started by Archaix on the 9th June as an independent counterbalance to the Vox Populi, and is designed to be more revolutionary and militant than the former.

LEGISLATIONIn the past week two pieces of legislation have been passed in the Voting Booth forum: 'Resolution 003 - Coalition Elections' and 'Resolution 004 - Awards'. The former will allow a third place candidate to endorse a leading candidate [1] in case of a tie, and the latter will allow the state to formally recognize achievement [2]. Meanwhile, criticism has been directed towards the Voting Booth by both Comrade Rhys, who claims that it may "lower our participation again" [3]. Commenting on this, president Archaix agreed, and suggested "a closed section of this forum, where registered people are masked in order to see it, may be a better option" [4]. No formal proposal has yet, however, been drafted. ---------- POLITICAL SYSTEMSThe debate on future political systems [5] has begun to rocket out of control, recent posts in the eponymous forum may suggest. The debate-forum topic, started on the 8th June, invited members to discuss possible alternatives to the current system, but gradually descended into an argument over the legitimacy of parliamentary democracy and, latterly, the responsibilities of the President. The debate drew in most prominent members of the region including Archaix, Led Zeppelin, Comrade Rhys, Free Grenada, Terriadia and Thanatos, and produced mixed results. Rhys maintained that the thread merely marked another instance of a "trend back to the government framework changing with every election", but admitted condoning "a reform toward Parliamentarian style Democracy", albeit refusing to set a definite target or deadline. However, Led Zeppelin was the most notable advocate of direct democracy, claiming, "WE DON’T NEED PARTIES. Just let it be a direct democracy where everyone represents THEMSELVES in the region". Archaix attacked this view by pointing out that representation would 'decentralize' the region, and that his representation idea would get rid of "veto, no more disorganized, unfocused policy. A perfect balance between representation and direct democracy". Led Zeppelin, however, then counter-attacked by criticizing Archaix's apathy towards the UN, an apathy that Archaix admitted: "I've said before and I'll say again, the UN is a waste of time", while highlighting the former Culture Minister's own 'anti-democratic' policy, AID, which he likened to the the American CIA. The debate continues. ---------- NOSTALGIA PROJECTPresident Archaix has unveiled a project to commemorate the region of the CSA and Communist through his 'Nostalgia Project' [6]. Currently the three aims of the Nostalgia Project are: * To get each member to share his or her own memories of their time at CSA/Communist. * To discuss the last year. * To hold a celebration on the birthday of the forum. Archaix's account of his time in the CSA is featured in this week's Gazetta CSA (see below). ---------- INTERVIEWThis week President Archaix shares his view of his time at the CSA. Ah yes, you'd probably not find that very interesting. I hope the members of my alliance do, though.

Thanks! It certainly looks less tiresome to read than it was to write. When I wrote it down it became apparent to me that our region's history is quite similar to post 1917 Russia. Currently I'm the last old Bolshevik left.

I rule the region. And yes, it does get painfully serious at times. That's the downside to ideology, I suppose.

LEGISLATIONThe solitary piece of legislation to be fronted thus far this week is the first Awards bill, proposing to congratulate Free Grenada and the Communist Organization of International Nations (COIN) in regard to the recent electoral victory the body had over the region, International Nations, and the aid given by Free Grenada on behalf of the CSA [1]. The group sent an ambassador to the CSA on Monday 25th June, marking the first reciprocal ambassadorial connection -that is, that both regions have an ambassador in each other's region [2]. The IN's ambassador is Robespierre (commonly known as 'Debro'), de facto leader of COIN, while the CSA's ambassador is Archaix. Free Grenada has now suspended operations, and has moved to recruiting in feeder regions. ---------- GRAND ALLIANCEThe public committee on the future of a new 'grand alliance' has been opened again by President Archaix, who cited his reason for 'bumping' the thread as having a mandate to further the project, calling it, "the cornerstone of my manifesto" [3]. The update reveals new details of the legislative, diplomatic, military and membership aspects of the proposed alliance, based upon the European Union, albeit "a more efficient and democratic version". No comments have yet been directed towards the proposal, but it is thought that a more detailed statement could form the basis of a founding treaty. However, it is unlikely that a statement drawn up by the CSA legislature could be universally accepted by all participants without amendments. The proposal is, as yet, still only an idea. Despite great interest in the enterprise from Comrade Rhys, Archaix and (more crucially) General Secretary Free Grenada, the plan faces opposition from Evil Killbots and Led Zeppelin. Attempts to placate opponents have resulted in two overriding policies that are not likely to change for some time: caution and compromise. Meanwhile foreign interest in the enterprise has been registered by 'Todd McCloud' on the Nationstates CSA logbook and COIN ambassador Debro. ---------- MARXIST LENINIST PARTYThe Marxist Leninist Party -a region not allied to the CSA- was attacked by a coalition of capitalists and right-wing regions on 19th-20th July, and declared captured on the 20th by Corporate Conservative operatives and, subsequently, by Archaix on the CSA forum on the 20th. Raiders appeared to have taken advantage of a lull in Founder activity, initially erroneously reported by both sources as captured by the raiders. However, Intelligence Minister of the NCSP, Jonathon Castro, reported on the CSA logbook on 21st June, "the founder came back". The World Factbook Entry on the MLP Nationstates page appeared to confirm this statement. The temporary crisis had the effect of opening the debate on the Founder password, which may be given out to a select group of trusted CSA members. Currently the Founder password is known only to former president Comrade Rhys.[4] ---------- NOSTALGIA PROJECTThe Nostalgia Project -a movement to celebrate the foundation of the forum and the Summer Revolution- has kick-started again thanks to an agreement between Led Zeppelin and Archaix to make it happen.[5] While the movement has yet to attract members, plans have already been made to send out telegrams and emails to all members promoting the event. It is still uncertain whether previous statesmen such as Socialist Utopia and Kreldon will attend. The day of commemoration will take place on August 4th, when the regional forum was founded. ----------- INTERVIEWThis week’s interview is with Led Zeppelin, former Culture Minister, prominent statesmen and proprietor of monthly publication Vox Populi. Download. ---------- APOLOGYDue to a problem with a data hosting site, delays forced publication to be moved to Wednesday 27th. We hope this will not happen again. -------------------- [1] The Award thread can be found here by registered voters. [2] See final post of the 8th page of the Nation Log thread here. The new one's out! LEGISLATIONFive new pieces of legislation have been up for voting in the past week. All five are alliances initially proposed by Led Zeppelin[1], and are with the following regions: Led Zeppelin, Green weed region, The Allied Socialist Union, Social Experimentation and Congress of Democratic Nations[2]. Meanwhile, the first state Award was passed by four votes to nil [3], commemorating the alliance between COIN and the CSA. The award commends the following comrades: - Free Grenada (then Foreign Minister of the CSA)
- Debro/Robespierre (head of Communist Organization of International Nations (COIN))
- Deutschgarten (COIN)
- Silvado
- Automaticz
-----
NOSTALGIA PROJECT The Nostalgia Project - a move to celebrate the Summer Revolution on the 4th August and the first anniversary of the CSA- has gained the support of former president Socialist Utopia (see INTERVIEW). When asked about possible involvement, he replied, "I'd be happy to attend personally in the CSA. I think it'd be great if through celebrating our beginnings." He also expressed a commitment to apologizing for his actions in March, and emphasized the need for close relations between the CSA and the NCSP.
-----
POLITICAL PARTIES Led Zeppelin has discovered a code that will enable the formation of political parties in the CSA [4]. While falling short of the theory purported by Archaix several weeks before, the code will enable political parties to form, provided they meet certain criteria and only allow a leader from each to run for the post of president and general secretary. The code is only in the experimental stages, however, and has not yet been ratified or incorporated into the current executive system.
DEBATE The debate-forum thread 'Muslims In Office' has attracted a vast swathe of contributers over the past week, attracting many of the long-standing contributers to the forum and new member, Robespierre. The thread deals with a movement attempting to prevent radical Muslims holding office, and then goes on to analyze the nature of Islam itself. [5]
-----
INTERVIEW This week’s piece is a telegram from the Marxist former president of the CSA, Socialist Utopia, sent to Amalgamated Provinces (Archaix) on the 7th July, 2007. It has been slightly adapted for the newspaper format.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Only want to make it clear that the Vox Populi is still functioning even if not published online. And it is not a publication for the region, it is a newspaper not abou the region. It's a publication aimed at the region, so it is in that respect. In any case it's valuable enough to post in our embassies, probably more so because it relates to theory rather than a region. Debro: We can't make them. Mind you, it could provoke un-socialist pride amongst the comrades. Solidarity!

LEGISLATIONLegislation has moved back to the main forum this week as a new drive for direct democracy has marginalized the old Voting Booth forum, which has suffered from low voter turnout since its creation. The proposals this week are: the Interregional Alliance Treaty (see Grand Alliance below) as proposed by San Fransisco Bay Area (SFBA) representative KrakenRouge, Political Parties amendment (see Political Parties below) and a revote on an alliance with Green weed region, which was rejected last week.[1] ----- POLITICAL PARTIESLed Zeppelin has unveiled a proposal which would create minor political parties in the region.[2] This proposal is backed up by a new code for the forum which allows the creation of parties, along with party pages, leaders and members. While the idea of political parties was overwhelmingly rejected by the forum populace in June (see Gazetta CSA Issue 1) the proposal accompanying the change stresses the 'freedom of assembly and membership to a club, group, or political party' for the people. Parties will not have any special control over proposals, and can organize their leaders for presidential elections. The right of independents to stand, however, is expected not to change. Three parties have currently been created: Militant Revolutionary Vanguard Party (MRVM) led by Thanatos, the United Democratic Socialist Party (UDSP) led by Led Zeppelin, and the Independent Socialist Party (ISP) led by current president Archaix. Some members, including Free Grenada, have been critical of recent developments, exclaiming, [3] ----- GRAND ALLIANCEThe CSA, Nationstates Communist party (NSCP) and San Fransisco Bay Area (SFBA) have all expressed a wish to join together in a 'grand alliance', the Gazetta CSA can report. SFBA representative KrakenRouge, the main proponent of the plan, has attempted over the last few days to join as many regions as possible in a hold-all treaty, congress or agreement. Almost a dozen more leftist regions have been approached, including the International Communist Union and the Alliance of Socialist States[4]. The plan ties in with the interregional policy of Archaix (see Gazetta CSA Issue 3[5]), who outlined his plans for a leftist grand alliance late last month in the form of a European Union-based congress. These plans are expected to be revealed to other interested leaders at the 'Internationale' forums -a temporary forum for the Grand Aliance- at theinternationale.freeforums.org[6]. ----- CONGRESS OF DEMOCRATIC STATESA CSA ally, the Congress of Democratic States (CDS) has recently fallen into anarchy following an intense but short power struggle, culminating with the departure of President and founder Hayanste and the banning of a significant amount of members from the region. Trouble erupted over four days ago when the President -who spearheaded the alliance with the CSA- was accused of attempting to create a dictatorship by bypassing the local Senate and the powers invested in him through the Constitution. Hayanste's response was to attempt to 'remove rightist insurgents from the region' by banning an undisclosed number of members, bringing the total down to a meager six. This telegram was allegedly sent the the president of the CSA, Archaix (Amalgamated Provinces): Arcahix reportedly did not respond, but notified the region immediately. The $20 billion was dismissed as a 'bribe'.[7] ---------- [1] The Voting Booth subforum can be accessed here.[2] 'Amendment 006: Political Parties can be read here.[3] From 'What's The Difference?'.[4] A report of progress on this subject can be found in 'United Region of Leftists'[5] Found here.[6] This site can be viewed here.[7] An initial report of the incident can be read on page two of the 'Ally Listings' thread.

LEGISLATIONA proposal to change the regional emblem drafted by UDSP Leader Led Zeppelin has resulted in a tie between two designs[1]. The direction of future legislation is likely to manifest itself as a run-off poll between the two, but as yet no date has been set. UDSP member Strashki has been elected for the position of General Secretary in a by-election poll[2]. This marks the second time a party member has attained a ministerial role (after President Archaix (ISP)), and the first time a minister has been elected from a party other than the ISP. Strashki won by eight votes to nil. ----- SEPTEMBER ELECTIONSPreparations by three of the four political parties in the CSA for the September General Elections have commenced this week, with the United Democratic Socialist Party (UDSP) announcing a 'Platform' on August 17th[3]. Running for the UDSP are: Strashki (reelection for the General Secretariat) and Led Zeppelin (Minister for Culture). The Independent Socialist Party (ISP) have begun their own internal search for nominees, and have advertised on the RMB for new recruits. As yet there are no confirmed nominees. The new International Worker's Party (IWP) launched their own campaign to elect party leader Trotsky to the General Secretariat[4]. The thread rapidly caught the attention of the UDSP and the ISP, who have expressed their own criticisms of Trotsky's plans. ----- MONTHLY LEFTISTRobespierre, spokesman of International Nation's COIN (allied to the CSA) has launched his own publication, 'The Monthly Leftist', that will be published in both regions in an attempt to establish closer connections between the two[5]. The format of the newspaper is based on the Gazetta CSA. ----- NOSTALGIA PROJECTThe Communist Socialist Alliance celebrated the first anniversary of the Summer Revolution on August 4th -a year to the day the regional forum was founded. While the dates of the actual revolution and the re-founding of Communist as the Communist Socialist Alliance remain uncelebrated, all of these events are remembered on the 4th of August. Threads dedicated to the event included: the 1st Anniversary thread[6], the Reunion thread[7] and The Anniversary Thread[8]. ----- PEACE CORPSPresident Archaix has announced his intention to reform the Peace Corps in an attempt to reform it's image, it's tactics and it's name.[9] The reforms have enjoyed cross-party support, and interest by several members, new and old. The Peace Corps has been moribund ever since the resignation of Intel minister Thanatos. ----- ADVERTISEMENTS----- INTERVIEWThis week's interview is with Robespierre, spokesman of International Nation's COIN. Read the interview here. ---------- [1] Regional Emblems[2] Mid-Election Aug 2[3] UDSP August 2007 Platform[4] Trotsky For General Secretary[5] The Monthly Leftist offices at the International Nations[6] 1st Anniversary[7] Reunion[8] The Anniversary Thread[9] Peace Corps!
