Government
President William Cross was elected three months ago, mostly because his two opponents died in bizzare accidents, both involving whales. So far, he has seemed to be a weak kind of president, wetting his pants during a labor strike and being chosen to sing, yes, sing, on Deb8ing Idol.
The Sen8 of 80 deb8ers makes most of the decisions, and, to pass a bill, 50 votes are required. There are 16 Sen8 deleg8s from each province, and these are elected every two years. Presidential elections are held every three years. There are two main political parties, the CX and the LD. Right now, the CX party controls the Sen8 with 46 delegates, but President Cross is an LDer.
Culture
Schooling is mandatory for all children up to the age of 16. In most schools, the children learn things like Latin and English until the age of 13, and then they have to choose which subject to specialize in. All are encouraged, and most do, choose Deb8 . Horsetraining is the second most popular choice, followed by Space Exploration. Almost half the country is atheist, a third is Hindu, and the rest say . Crime laws aren't very strict, meaning that it is usually safer to keep your money in a private safe than in a bank. The currency is the Card. It is suspected that a large terrorist underground cell headed by the infamous Sean Hannity exists, but everyone is too lazy to do anything about it.
Sports
The Deb8BA is the country's basketball league, consisting of 10 teams. Though international basketball hasn't been coordinated through Firedeb8ers, people are trying. If one team would be chosen to represent the country, it would probably be the Deb8ing Swish, which has gone undefeated (18-0) the last three seasons.
The Deb8ing Football Club coordinates many lesser, innercountry teams, most of which are better than the international team because it sucks. Before games, they spend all night and fall asleep on the field 90% of the time. Nobody attends their home games. Ever.
Last, but certainly not least, is the Deb8TA, the Deb8ing Tennis Association. It, it thinks, has the best tennis players in International Nations, names like Dodger Federal and Slovach Knokovich.
Climate
The climate in the continental Firedeb8ers is very nice about half the time. It is sunny with a light breeze and rarely rains in the summer and spring. In the fall and winter, however, most people can't come out of their homes for fear of being hit by lightning. Most have lighting rods on their roofs and those who don't usually have missing limbs. For this purpose, an underground train system was created which runs underneath all parts of the continental Firedeb8ers. You can litterally open a trapdoor, climb down some stairs, and find yourself on a train platform, used to transport people to school and the indoor tennis courts.
The Climate in the northern Deb8ing Island is very cold and harsh, but thunderstorms are unheard of. People live in caves in mountains and underground. In the southern part of the Deb8ing island, the climate resembles Florida: it has hurricanes, but the beauty is worth it. It's population is about 100 million, and will probably stay at 100 million.
